Our test bike, so far...
Building the Big Guy was a challenge, it didn't fit in the bike stand so we had to hang it from the rafters to work on it.
First test ride:
At first the bike was off balance, but a re-alignment of the triple tree solved that. The brakes were rubbing, the wheels needed minor truing, problem solved. Once the bike was straightend out it rode like a dream. Granted it is very heavy, but the increased wheelbase makes for a great cruiser ride.
Up To Date:
At the time of this writing the bike has over two thousand miles on it pretty much as pictured below. No flats or break downs and finally broken in!! What a great bike, no really!! I feel like I'm on my motorcycle. This bike is super stable and strong. The geometry of the big guy is sporty, and the increased wheel base makes riding this bike so much fun. I have literally fishtailed this thing into corners and never out of control. I ride this bike over 20 miles daily, and easily over 120 miles per week. For my ride, I have a flat out and back to the beach. This bike is the best training tool ever. The single speed configuration with longer than usual cranks makes it easy to ride with power. I've gotten the big guy over 27 miles per hour on flat ground using the original 44 x 20 gearing. The upright positioning of the big guy bike is easy on my back which helped me to lose weight and get back into cycling. I've increased my endurance and feel much healthier. I'm planning to switch out the 20 tooth gear with an 18 tooth gear as summer gets closer and legs get conditioned to break the 30 miles an hour mark. I would suggest this bike to anyone sized to ride it... after all it is the "Big Guy" for a reason.
Farthest One Day Ride: 42 miles
I rode the Big Guy up and down one of the local trails in the format pictured below. I had plenty of water (3-24oz), storage for snacks and a complete tool kit for any breakdowns, all of which make a very heavy bike that much heavier. Luckily there aren't any hills and I really enjoyed my day out in comfort. The sport saddle made the ride easy. I get noticed every time I ride this bike, at the beach or on the trail, people love it.
